How Industrial Metal Detectors Work?

The Working Of An Industrial Metal Detector is based on a three coil design that uses an AM transmitting coil plus two receiving coils one on each side. The detector is designed to find out very small metal contaminates ranging in sizes from 1mm or even smaller than this. The coil is configured to have an opening/ aperture for the product to pass through the 3 coil system. At this point an equal but mirrored signal is created on the two receiving coils. The signals thus produced cancel each other out. In case there is a metal contaminant then the disturbance in signals is unequal which, in turn, gives rise to a minute electronic signal. Special electronics are used to amplify this signal and direct the mechanical equipment attached to the detector to remove the contaminated objects. The entire process needs no human intervention and is continuous so that the production proceeds with no interruption.
